After nearly six months, football is finally back – with the Houston Texans taking on the Chicago Bears in the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game. While the game marks the start of the preseason, it also serves as one of three principal events that together form ‘Enrishinement Weekend’ – a marquee fixture on the NFL calendar.

But what is Enrishinement Weekend?
Held annually in Canton, Ohio – home of the Hall of Fame – Enshrinement Weekend celebrates the newest class of inductees. Alongside the game – which kicks off the festivities on Thursday evening – the weekend also consists of a ‘Gold Jacket Dinner’ before the Enshrinement ceremony itself.
The game, played annually in the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, showcases two teams that are notably associated with members of that year’s class. For example, Devin Hester, Andre Johnson and Julius Peppers – all members of the class of ‘24 – suited up as either a Bear or a Texan during their career, hence this year’s teams.

For the selected organisations, the preseason matchup offers an invaluable opportunity to evaluate their new talent, test strategies, and build team chemistry. It is particularly important for rookies and fringe players who aim to secure a spot on the final roster. This year’s game will also see the debut of multiple changes to gameplay ahead of the 2024 season.
Scheduled for Friday evening, the ‘Gold Jacket Dinner’ sees the class of 2024 receive their iconic gold jackets – as the name would suggest – ahead of the celebratory presentation of their bronze busts at the Enshrinement ceremony on Saturday. Amongst those in attendance at the dinner, are previous inductees – using the weekend as an opportunity to celebrate and reunite with their former teammates.
Over the years, nearly 30,000 men have played in the NFL at least once. Since the Pro Football Hall of Fame was founded in 1963, however, only 371 have been inducted – making the league’s annual celebration a cornerstone of every preseason. But who comes out on top, in 2024’s Hall of Fame Game?
